Job summary

Nextran Truck Centers in Fort Lauderdale is seeking an Advanced Diesel Technician to diagnose and repair medium to heavy-duty trucks. You will perform preventive maintenance, component rebuilds, and write detailed work notes for each service outing.

Ideal candidates have 2–4 years of related experience, strong customer focus, solid computer skills, and a CDL is a plus. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities are essential in this role.

Qualifications

  • Two to four years related experience and/or training or equivalent education.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • High School Diploma; college or technical training preferred but not required.
  • Valid CDL license a plus, recommended within 1 year of hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose issues and repair/maintain customer medium & heavy-duty trucks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and component rebuilds as needed.
  • Write detailed work notes and maintain accurate records.
  • Interface with customers, vendors, and shop staff professionally.
  • Supervise apprentices as assigned and coordinate with service advisor.

The Advanced Service Technician at Nextran Truck Centers is a skilled position that is responsible for repairing and maintaining our customer’s Medium & Heavy-Duty Trucks. This includes diagnosing issues, preventative maintenance, repairs, disassembly and re-assembly, and writing detailed work notes.

Technical
  • Maintain proficiency in the diagnosis and repair of all assigned equipment.
  • Maintain proficiency in the rebuilding of major components on assigned equipment.
  • Ensure accurate diagnosis and the effective repair and/or replacement of components necessary for the proper functioning of assigned equipment.
  • Perform Service calls for emergency breakdowns.
Administrative
  • Interact effectively, courteously, professionally with customers, vendors, and other employees regarding vehicle repairs and other shop business.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicates with service advisor/dispatcher immediately on repair updates and or delays.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
Health, and Safety
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Ensures that vehicle is kept clean. Notifies service advisor/dispatcher immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Operates all tools/equipment in a safe manner and reports any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Make building and facility repairs as requested.
  • Perform other maintenance duties or assignments as requested.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills
