Summary

The VA Greater Los Angeles Medical Center is recruiting for one (1) Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (MRI) to work in Radiology/Imaging Services, Los Angeles, CA. The incumbent will serve as a fully qualified diagnostic radiologic technologist specializing in MRI (100%) and operate the superconductive Magnetic Resonance Imager (MRI). Responsibilities include assisting radiologists and medical officers in producing diagnostic imaging studies.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens are unavailable, in accordance with VA policy.
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification required for duties involving computed tomography (CT), MRI, or Mammography performed independently.
  • Advanced certification demonstrates the ability to operate independently and clinical competency in the specialty.
  • On-the-job training may be provided for modalities requiring advanced certification.
  • Completion of a full-time, 24-month (or equivalent) post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program accredited by JRCERT or recognized agencies.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English as per 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
  • May qualify under the VA Grandfathering Provision if applicable.

Grade Determination: GS-10 Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist

  • Perform complex procedures in one or more modalities, demonstrating significant complexity and expertise.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection, advanced imaging software, physics, and patient positioning for complex imaging procedures.

Preferred Experience: Advanced ARRT certification in MRI, BCLS, ACLS, and venipuncture certifications are required.

Physical Requirements: Moderate physical demands, including lifting up to 40 pounds, moving equipment, and assisting patients with safe handling devices.

Duties
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in MRI, demonstrating advanced knowledge, skills, and behaviors.
  • Organize work, set priorities, delegate, and maintain interpersonal relationships.
  • Follow MRI safety protocols to protect patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Perform MRI examinations, including patient selection, protocol modification, image reformating, and contrast administration.
  • Maintain proficiency in MRI safety, post-processing, troubleshooting, and quality assurance.
  • Evaluate new procedures and equipment to improve operations.
  • Ensure documentation of equipment malfunctions and perform service recovery as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with safety guidelines and keep abreast of emerging MRI safety issues.
