Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 2–5 years in deputy marshal I or law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of a variety of legal documents used to notify parties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interview individuals.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the U.S. Virgin Islands and court proceedings.

Responsibilities

  • Serve summonses, subpoenas, orders and other court processes.
  • Travel across the court's service area to notify parties and deliver instruments.
  • Keep a log of papers received and those served.
  • Inquire of people and check references to locate individuals.
  • Escort court employees when making bank deposits and attend court sessions as assigned.
  • May be trained to serve writs of execution and eviction notices; may perform court security duties.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.
