Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory seeks an engineer to join the Instrumentation and Control Systems team within the Hardware Building Block Engineering- or I&C Hardware Development- or Integration and Support Engineering units. You will help develop HWBB components, prepare functional requirements, and troubleshoot issues to support submarine and aircraft carrier fleets.

Qualifications

Job Description

The Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Systems Development subdivision is looking for a motivated engineer to join our team in the Hardware Building Block Engineering unit, I&C Hardware Development unit, or Integration and Support Engineering unit! In this role, the successful candidate would join a team of engineers who are responsible for driving the development, schedule, delivery, and troubleshooting efforts for an extensive catalog of Hardware Building Block (HWBB) components that are used throughout the submarine and aircraft carrier fleets. This position provides a unique opportunity to work on this important technology and drive innovative improvements to I&C equipment design while directly supporting the current and future fleets.


The successful candidate should expect to be tasked with challenging work assignments that will make use of and enhance their engineering and professional skills and abilities. Engineers in these units assist with or lead overall development efforts for HWBB components at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory by preparing and maintaining functional requirements, performing hands‑on laboratory testing, working with system integrators to incorporate HWBB technology into plant designs, and troubleshooting emergent issues. They regularly interface with system owners and designers, equipment prime contractors, component vendors, and Naval Reactors personnel to accomplish this important work.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in electrical engineering or computer engineering and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university in electrical engineering or computer engineering and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in electrical engineering or computer engineering.
Preferred Skills
  • GPA of at least 3.0/4.0
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience with technical writing
  • Experience with writing or testing functional requirements

Pay Range

$86,100.00 - $134,600.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
