Job description

Description

The Advanced Clinical Dietitian reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Clinical Dietitian, in collaboration with the physician, provides nutritional counseling in order to restore or maintain an optimal nutrition status for the patient. This position communicates and collaborates effectively with the health care team to exchange and disseminate information regarding care of the patient and program development.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide individual nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy services, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, evaluation, data analysis and documentation.
  2. Create and provide in-person, virtual and written nutrition education for patients.
  3. Collaborate with physician to identify and connect with patients in need of nutrition counseling.
  4. Evaluate patient and nutrition parameters, identify goals/outcomes, and complete risk assessment.
  5. Select appropriate dietary, behavioral, and physical interventions.
  6. Provide nutrition/lifestyle education and counseling for individuals and groups.
  7. Discuss/interpret appropriate use of pharmacotherapy, making recommendations as appropriate (supplements, commercial products).
  8. Develop, present, and modify educational materials.
  9. Evaluate effects of nutrition counseling, observe and note patient's response and progress, and recommend adjustments and modifications.
  10. Consult with other programs/staff to ensure coordinated service delivery.
  11. Identify and communicate key issues and trends to health care team.
  12. Participate in in-service training for staff, students, and physicians.
  13. Educate target groups about the role of nutrition in disease management and lifestyle medicine.
  14. Collect and document research data to support quality management outcomes.
  15. May support additional projects, perform administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in nutrition or related field.
  • Licensed Dietician Nutritionist (IL).
  • Current certification in an area of advanced practice dietetics.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification.
  • Zero (0) to two (2) years’ experience providing nutrition therapy services.
  • Experience with individual and/or group counseling and education.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in exercise physiology, nutrition, counseling or related fields.
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification.
