Job summary

City of Decatur is seeking a seasoned Accountant I/II to perform complex accounting duties in support of the city's financial operations. The role emphasizes accuracy, GAAP/GASB compliance, and data-driven insights.

Responsibilities include preparing the ACFR, assisting budget development, handling journal entries, and providing ERP system support for month-end and year-end processes. Strong Excel and problem-solving skills are required.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
• Typically 3–5 years of accounting experience.
• Proficiency in GAAP and GASB guidelines; advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and support the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
• Assist in development of annual city budget; compile data and provide analytical support.
• Coordinate special projects and provide ERP month-end/year-end support.
• Create, review, and approve journal entries including month-end and year-end.
• Provide ad hoc reporting to Finance Manager and CFO; support financial operations.
• Maintain funds and budgets with timely adjustments per City Council actions.
