Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking an Associate/Business/Advanced Business Analyst to join Regulated Settlements, onsite in Akron, OH. The role involves learning PJM energy markets, handling data, and producing regular reports while collaborating with various internal teams.

You will work with large datasets, perform data validation, and contribute to process improvements. A degree in business or related fields plus 4+ years of experience is preferred.

About The Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corporation. It is an onsite position that can be in Akron, OH.

Working in Regulated Settlements provides an opportunity to learn about the PJM energy and capacity market as well as how retail shopping impacts utility operations. In this role, the selected candidate will interact with PJM and third-party suppliers; learn how wholesale settlement functions influence activity at PJM; and understand how certain changes in federal and state regulations impact our Company.

Regulated Settlements interacts routinely with team members from Customer Care, Regulated Commodity Sourcing, FERC & RTO Technical Support, RTO Energy Transactions, Metering & Support Systems, Rates & Regulatory Affairs, and Information Technology. We also participate as members of the PJM Market Settlements and PJM Demand Response subcommittees.

Responsibilities Include

• Prepare and submit accurate and timely energy, capacity, and transmission data to PJM on a daily, monthly, and annual basis.
• Query, validate, analyze, and organize large amounts of data into meaningful results.
• Prepare and validate weekly, monthly, and annual reports for internal / external sources.
• Utilize various mathematical principles such as regression equations and algebra.
• Assist with key projects and implement improvement initiatives related to processing and analyzing customer energy data and resolving data discrepancies.
• Understand concepts related to operating in Regional Transmission Organization and electric industry principles such as PJM energy and capacity markets, demand response, energy efficiency, customer choice, and customer electric use patterns.
• Coordinate and participate in meetings with various internal departments regarding metering and supplier data information.
• Keep sensitive customer information secured.
• Demonstrate commitment to all aspects of safety and the Company’s diversity and inclusion principles.
• Provide a high level of customer service and responsiveness while building relationships and credibility across the organization.
• Conduct business specific research, interpret results, and make recommendations.

An employee hired at the Advanced Business Analyst, Senior Business Analyst or Staff Business Analyst level will be expected to perform all the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the Advanced Business Analyst, Senior Business Analyst or Staff Business Analyst level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those above.

Qualifications At The Assistant Business Analyst Level Include

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related disciplinerequired. In lieu of a degree, 4 years of relevant work experience is required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline with 2years of relevant work experience required. In lieu of a degree, 7 years of relevant work experience is required.
• Experience working with large data sets such as querying, data analysis and reporting, identifying and acting on process improvements, and an in-depth understanding of the relevant subject matter.
• Understand meaningful associations between tables and databases that contain related information.
• Demonstrated experience with reading and writing ad hoc SQL statements and queries.
• Working knowledge of querying tools (i.e., Toad for Oracle, SAS) and SAP is a plus.
• Understand best practices and techniques for addressing customer concerns.

Qualifications at the Business Analyst level include the above, plus:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline with 4 years of relevant work experience required. In lieu of a degree, 7 years of relevant work experience is required.
• Relevant experience includes working with large data sets such as querying, data analysis and reporting, identifying and acting on process improvements, and an in-depth understanding of the relevant subject matter.
• Highly proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Word.
• Adept at queries, report writing, process improvement, and presenting findings.
• Significant experience with reading and writing ad hoc SQL statements and queries.
• Utility and/or regional transmission organization experience is a plus.
• Identifying and acting on process improvements.
• Conduct business specific research, interpret results, and make recommendations.

Qualifications at the Advanced Business Analyst level include the above, plus:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline with 7 years of professional work experience required. In lieu of a degree, 10 years of relevant work experience is required.
