Job summary

The City of Denton is seeking a Building Inspector to perform advanced technical building inspection and plan examination to ensure compliance with municipal codes and adopted standards. Responsibilities include daily inspections, reviewing drawings, assisting the public, mentoring staff, and participating in emergency responses.

Qualified candidates will have two years of inspection experience, a valid Plumbing Inspector license (TX), six ICC certifications, and FEMA NIMS courses 100/200/700

Qualifications

• Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local Government laws, ordinances, and regulations.
• Knowledge of project management principles and ability to review improvements based on scope and budget.
• Ability to interpret policies, laws, and regulations and provide workable recommendations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and related software systems.
• Strong customer service orientation and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in building inspection techniques and reading blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections for compliance with City of Denton codes and adopted standards.
• Inspect all construction facets in new/existing structures and Certificate of Occupancy topics.
• Maintain records; submit daily inspection reports in written and digital formats.
• Read, interpret, and explain adopted building codes and city ordinances; read plans.
• Assist citizens and professionals with questions regarding construction regulations.
• Assist in training of Building Inspector I.
• Investigate and resolve public complaints; report to Building Official.
• Provide services during emergencies (disaster prep or response).
