Job summary

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Inc. is seeking a skilled mechanic to maintain and repair automotive and related equipment across our toll road network.

You will diagnose, repair, and test engines, hydraulics, electrical systems and more while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include overhauls, inspections, and record-keeping, with emphasis on reliability, teamwork, and problem solving in a field with variable conditions and emergency calls.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or equivalent certification.
• Must possess a valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) and must pass the Class A CDL road test by the end of the trial period or probationary period; OR must possess a valid Class A learner’s permit and pass the Class A CDL road test by the end of the trial period.
• The incumbent must possess (or obtain) an N or X endorsement on their CDL or permit by the end of the trial period.
• Must possess a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Physical Card).
• Must possess a valid Class 4 or Class 7 Pennsylvania state inspection license; OR must possess a Class 1 PA state inspection license AND obtain a valid Class 4 or Class 7 PA license within 90 days of starting.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and overhauls automobiles, trucks, tractors, air compressors, cement mixers and other equipment.
• Operates various types of motor vehicles and applies knowledge of equipment systems.
• Repairs engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes and all parts of automotive equipment.
• Inspects equipment for compliance with state regulations.
• Performs diagnostic work on gasoline, diesel and alternative fuel engine systems.
• Performs minor welding as required.
