Qualifications

• High School graduation or GED.
• Education equivalent to completion of two years in and preferably graduation from a four year trade or vocational high school with courses in general shop and automotive repair.
• Three years of experience in repairing and rebuilding a variety of gasoline and/or diesel fuel powered vehicles or completion of an approved four-year apprenticeship in automotive repair or equivalent.
• Preferably two years of experience in repairing a variety of construction, maintenance or other special purpose vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and/or maintain city vehicles using diagnostic equipment.
• Repair and service a variety of heavy equipment and special purpose vehicles.
• Operate tow trucks to service and retrieve disabled vehicles.
• Perform oil changes, tune-ups, and tire rotations.
• Instruct apprentices and helpers on job tasks.
