Description

Frederick Health Medical Group (FHMG), a highly respected 160+ provider, multi-specialty medical group, is seeking a dedicated Advance Practice Provider (APP)—Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Orthopedic practice supporting our Joint Replacement program.

This position offers the opportunity to work in close partnership with an orthopedic joint replacement surgeon, providing comprehensive care to patients throughout their orthopedic journey—from initial evaluation and conservative management through surgical preparation, surgical intervention, postoperative care, and long-term follow-up.

If you are an APP who values teamwork, clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and professional growth, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact while being supported by a strong physician partnership and an established health system.

About the Role

The Advanced Practice Provider serves as a trusted clinician and partner to the orthopedic joint replacement physician, helping manage patients with hip and knee conditions and supporting efficient access, continuity, and coordination of care.

The APP will participate in the evaluation and management of new and established orthopedic patients, preoperative preparation, postoperative follow-up, and ongoing nonsurgical management. The role will include first-assist responsibilities in the operating room. This position combines clinical autonomy with close physician collaboration and provides an opportunity to develop specialized expertise in joint replacement and musculoskeletal care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new and established patients presenting with hip, knee, and other musculoskeletal conditions
  • Obtain comprehensive histories, perform orthopedic-focused physical examinations, develop differential diagnoses, and establish treatment plans in collaboration with the orthopedic physician
  • Order, review, and interpret appropriate diagnostic imaging, laboratory testing, and other clinical studies
  • Provide nonsurgical management of orthopedic conditions, including medication management, activity modification, therapy referrals, and other conservative treatment options
  • Perform appropriate office-based orthopedic procedures within scope of practice and demonstrated competency, including joint injections and aspirations
  • Conduct preoperative evaluations and provide patient education regarding joint replacement procedures, expectations, preparation, and recovery
  • Provide postoperative care, including incision and wound evaluation, assessment of recovery and mobility, and identification of potential postoperative complications
  • Coordinate rehabilitation, physical therapy, home health, and other services necessary to support successful patient outcomes
  • Assist the orthopedic surgeon in the operating room as appropriate based on training, experience, credentialing, and practice needs
  • Provide timely postoperative and longitudinal follow-up for joint replacement patients
  • Counsel and educate patients and families using clear, compassionate, and culturally sensitive communication
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing, rehabilitation services, care management, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team
  • Help improve patient access by independently managing appropriate patient visits and supporting efficient physician clinic utilization
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient experience, and clinical workflow initiatives within the orthopedic program
  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
