FedEx Freight is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to design, operate, and secure an enterprise Lakehouse platform powering analytics and AI. The role focuses on cloud-native engineering, governance, automation, and cost efficiency.

The candidate will implement Terraform/Bicep deployments, manage access controls, and partner with cloud teams to enable data engineering and analytics teams while optimizing platform cost.

While this position is eligible to work remotely if the successful candidate is located outside the Memphis, TN or Harrison, AR areas, the candidate must reside within 50 miles of a FedEx Freight location within the continental U.S.

If the successful candidate is located in the Memphis, TN or Harrison, AR areas, the candidate will be required to work a hybrid schedule, working three days per week in the office.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Responsible for designing, operating, securing, and optimizing the enterprise Lakehouse platform that powers analytics, AI, and data products Role evolves the traditional DBA discipline into a modern cloud-native data platform engineering function focused on reliability, governance, automation, scalability, and cost efficiency.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, implement, and operate the enterprise Lakehouse platform (e.g., Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, or similar).
• Manage platform configuration, storage architecture, catalogs, schemas, and access controls.
• Administer governance capabilities such as Unity Catalog, Microsoft Purview, and enterprise security policies.
• Optimize platform performance, workload management, and query execution.
• Implement monitoring, observability, alerting, backup, disaster recovery, and service-level objectives.
• Develop Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/Bicep) and CI/CD pipelines for platform deployment.
• Partner with cloud infrastructure teams on networking, identity, and compute.
• Enable data engineering, analytics, and AI teams through reusable platform capabilities.
• Manage platform cost optimization (FinOps) and capacity planning.
• Support regulatory compliance, auditing, and data protection requirements.
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree in data science, computer science, information systems, or a related field.
• Five (5) years’ work experience in Data Platform Engineering, Cloud DBA, or related field.
• Experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting.

• Experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Advanced experience conducting end-to-end analyses, including data gathering and requirements.
• Ability to provide leadership in a general planning or consulting setting.
• Ability to develop and act as a leader of multi-functional project teams.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present and communicate effectively to executive audiences.

Actual pay is determined by job-related factors permitted by law and relevant to the position, such as experience, tenure, market level, pay at the location for this job, performance, schedule, and work assignment. Pay Range: $93,851.00 - $180,195.00 per year

This compensation range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting pay range in NJ. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay is determined by experience relative to the job, market level, specific location and other job-related factors permitted by law. Regular full & part-time employees (who complete 91 days of employment and work a minimum average of 12 hours per week) are eligible to enroll in medical, dental, and/or vision coverage, tuition reimbursement. Full/part-time employees who are age 21 are eligible for 401(k) after one month of employment.
