Job summary

Oakland Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional Class #130 for the Lamphere Center adult transition program. The role involves supporting instructional activities, supervising students in various settings, and assisting with data collection and behavior plans.

Training in CPR and crisis intervention will be provided. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, willingness to perform physical care tasks, and ability to work with students with cognitive impairments and developmental

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Advanced training in an approved special education aide program.
• Experience working with young adults with cognitive impairments and autism.
• Willingness to perform physical management and care procedures.
• Willingness to be trained in CPR and crisis intervention.
• Good health and positive attitude.
• Ability to work with students with challenging behaviors.
• Fitness for duty physical required.
• Basic computer literacy and operation of instructional equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation, implementation and record-keeping of instructional activities under teachers' direction.
• Conduct training activities with small groups at various sites.
• Supervise and coach students off-site.
• Provide instructional assistance under teacher supervision.
• Monitor students with medical conditions and implement assigned procedures.
• Follow behavior management plans, including crisis interventions.
• Conduct physical care tasks including feeding, showering and toileting as needed.
• Record data for behavioral analysis and instructional progress.
• Participate in professional development and meetings as directed.
