Job summary

Pillar Libraries seeks an energetic Adult Services Library Assistant for the Denville Public Library to drive programming and community outreach. You will help grow adult events, manage marketing across digital platforms, and assist visitors with reference help and technology.

The role emphasizes collaboration with staff, strong presentation skills, and comfort using MS Office, Google Workspace, Canva, and WordPress. This part-time position may require evening and weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree completed.
• Background check and fingerprint clearance prior to start date.

Position: Adult Services Library Assistant – Programming and Outreach

The Denville Public Library is seeking an energetic, adaptable, and digitally savvy team member to help propel our adult programming and community outreach forward.

Key Responsibilities:

• Content & Promotion: Draft compelling social media posts, design marketing materials, and maintain an active digital presence.
• Events & Community Outreach: Co-host adult events, facilitate engaging book clubs, brainstorm new programs tailored to local interests and schedule/moderate Library programs.
• Patron Support: Assist visitors at the reference desk, answer reference questions, troubleshoot technology and offer personalized recommendations.

Position Details:

Department: Adult Services

Reports to: Adult Services Supervisor

Employment Type: Part time

Schedule:

• Evening Shift: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM
• Weekend Shift: 5th Saturday of the month (when applicable), 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Flexibility: Occasional morning, afternoon, or Saturday coverage may be needed based on library scheduling.

Benefits:

• This position is not entitled to health benefits.
• Ten vacation days at the daily equivalent rate, prorated.
• After one year of employment, 3 personal days at the daily equivalent rate, prorated.
• Entitled to earned sick leave per N.J.S.A. 34:11D-1.
• Three paid holidays at the daily equivalent rate – July 4 th , Thanksgiving and Christmas.
• Enrollment in the Defined Contribution Retirement Plan (DCRP), if eligible.
