Job summary

Amenia Free Library is seeking an Adult Programming Assistant to plan and run the library's adult programs, from crafts to book clubs and guest talks. You will also cover the circulation desk, helping patrons, checking materials in and out, and answering calls.

The role is part-time, 25 hours per week, with 2-3 Saturdays per month; starting pay is $22.00 per hour and includes vacation, sick time, EAP access, and ICHRA healthcare support.

Qualifications

  • Strong computer and technology skills with email, Google/Microsoft products, library resources, and device troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Create, organize and execute the library's adult programming schedule for the community.
  • Staff the Circulation Desk and assist patrons, answer phones, and provide a welcoming desk presence.
  • Multitask, stay organized, and work under the Library Director supervision.
  • Assist with program rotation including Saturdays and occasional after-hours events.

Adult Programming Assistant Job Description

We are looking to hire an Adult Programming Assistant!

The primary focus for this position will be creating, organizing, and executing the Library's adult programming schedule for our community. This includes programs for our adult patrons, ranging from young adults to seniors. Programs may include arts and crafts, book clubs, guest presenters, and the development of new and innovative programs.

Staffing the Circulation Desk is another key focus of this position, encompassing not only assisting patrons with library services, checking materials in and out, and answering the phone, but also providing a welcoming and helpful presence at the desk.

We are looking for someone who is able to multitask, be organized, to help create and continue to boost our Library's offerings of adult programs. This position will be under the supervision of the Library Director.

Specifics of the Position:

This will be a Part-Time position, at 25 hours a week. Occasionally, programs will be outside of our operating hours and schedules will be adjusted accordingly.

2-3 Saturdays a month are required, as all staff rotate this shift. Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.

Strong public speaking, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to adapt communication style and approach to effectively serve our patrons across a wide range of interactions.

Strong creativity, organizational, and multitasking skills.

Benefits: 1 paid week of vacation, 1 paid week of sick time, with 15 hours of unpaid sick time, access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and an ICHRA benefit of $300 a month, for healthcare-related costs.

The starting pay will be $22.00 an hour.

Requirements for the Position:

A high school degree or GED is required. An Associate's or Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

Strong computer and technology skills are a must, including proficiency with email services, Google and Microsoft products, digital resources provided by the Library, and troubleshooting a variety of technological devices (i.e., mobile phones, computers/laptops, tablets, and more).

Must be able to bend, lift, and carry library materials up to 40 lbs., including up and down stairs. A background check will be required.

2 References will be required from previous employers.
