Job summary

Young World Physical Education in Chelsea, MA is looking for a part-time Adult Instructor for the Intergenerational Literacy Program. This role involves teaching adults and developing curriculum to enhance literacy across various subjects.

The instructor will engage with up to 30 adult learners, assess their progress, and oversee tutors. Candidates should have at least a Bachelor’s degree in education and experience in K-12 or adult literacy.

The program runs for 38 weeks a year, offering 4 to 19.5 hours of work per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field at minimum.
• Experience working in K‑12 education, or adult literacy.
• Knowledge of family literacy, ESOL, ABE.
• Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, or Arabic preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach a class of up to 30 adults.
• Work with ILP director and other instructors on curriculum.
• Design lessons using authentic materials.
• Assess learners’ progress with various assessments.
• Monitor learners in borrowing and returning library books.
• Participate in professional development seminars.
• Administer TABE CLAS‑E and/or BEST Plus assessments.
• Engage in ongoing program development and community planning.
• Oversee tutors during classroom instruction.
