Overview
Position Title: Adult Education Trainer - Math/Science
Kishwaukee College is seeking an Adult Education Trainer – Math/Science to provide educational opportunities for students seeking to improve basic academic skills and/or prepare for the math High School Equivalency tests.
Responsibilities
- Provide math instruction according to the established curriculum while adapting activities and materials to meet the needs of the students.
- Collect information and maintain student records in accordance with college requirements.
- Submit required student records and materials in a timely and organized manner.
- Demonstrate sensitivity and respect for students’ needs, diversity and right to self-determination.
- Work in accordance with professional standards and student confidentiality.
- Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development activities in order to effectively perform duties of position.
- Participate in recruitment and retention strategies that are responsive to the changing needs of the students and community.
- Provide student assessments according to established guidelines.
- Take initiative, make timely decisions, demonstrate good organizational skills and communication skills, and be flexible.
Environment
Promote and support teamwork and cooperation with other division staff, instructors, and external agencies to promote a positive learning experience for students. Provide timely information and referrals as needed; meet deadlines for reporting purposes. Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning, sensitive to diverse backgrounds and responsive to the needs of the individual and the class in general.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- BA or BS degree in Education or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of experience in teaching ABE/ASE
- MA in Adult Education or related field
- Training or coursework in teaching math
- Experience with disadvantaged individuals
- Demonstration of proficiency in oral and written English
- Technology/Digital Literacy proficiency
- Teacher certification/training or coursework in teaching methodology
- Completion of at least three instructional workshops in subject area being taught or other relevant topics to the instructional assignment
- Demonstration of competency in subject area development
- Knowledge of evaluation techniques for assessing student placement, progress, and test readiness
