Colby Community College (CCC) invites applications for a full-time Adult Education Instructor to provide GED preparation and academic instruction to eligible incarcerated students. This position will provide instructional services within both the higher security-areas of Norton Correctional Facility and the lower-security unit located outside the main facility. This position is located in Norton, Kansas and will perform services at the Norton Correctional Facility.

Salary Rage

The hiring range for this exempt, full-time position will be $43,500 - $45,650 per year. The selected candidate will also be eligible to participate in the College's health, dental, and vision plan, as well as the State of Kansas KPERS retirement system. This position is also eligible for relocation/moving expenses up to $2,000.

Position Information

Applicants for this position must be willing and comfortable working with incarcerated individuals across different custody and security levels and must be able to adapt to the policies, procedures, security requirements, and operational expectations associated with this setting.

Based on the educational needs and student availability within a correctional environment may vary, the successful candidate must be willing to maintain a somewhat flexible full-time work schedule. The position will maintain an established regular work schedule, some adjustment of the working hours may be necessary to ensure students have reasonable access.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Experience working with and around incarcerated individuals preferred.
  • Experience delivering adult education, GED preparation classes is preferred.
  • Experience teaching or delivering instruction is preferred.
Essential Duties
  • Complete and maintain all required KDOC background checks, orientations, training, and facility requirements within the established probationary period and thereafter as required.
  • Follow all facility-specific security procedures, movement requirements, access restrictions, emergency procedures, and staff expectations associated with providing services in both higher- and lower-security correctional settings.
  • Develop and maintain weekly lesson plans aligned with Adult Education standards, GED preparation requirements, student educational functioning levels, and identified student needs.
  • Provide classroom, small-group, individualized, and virtual instruction to students preparing for the GED credential.
  • Differentiate instruction based on individual student skill levels, assessment results, educational goals, and demonstrated areas of need.
  • Provide students with opportunities for direct instruction, guided practice, independent practice, group discussion, remediation, and individualized academic support.
  • Utilize approved assessments, curriculum, instructional technology, and student performance data to identify areas of academic need and guide instruction.
  • Incorporate technology and approved digital learning resources into instruction to increase student engagement and support individualized learning.
  • Monitor student participation, academic progress, and readiness for GED testing and communicate relevant progress information to appropriate Adult Education staff.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records, including attendance, instructional hours, academic progress, lesson documentation, and other required program records.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, professional development, program improvement activities, and other Adult Education initiatives.
  • Perform other duties related to Adult Education instruction and student support as assigned by the Director of Adult Education or designee.
