Job summary

1st Choice is hiring a CAS Assessor to support NY IDD services. You will conduct person-centered CAS assessments to guide individualized care plans and support service delivery across New York.

The role offers flexible hybrid work, travel between assessment locations, and opportunities for CAS certification and professional growth. A bachelor's degree in human services is required, with 1+ year of relevant experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a human services field (required).
• Minimum of 1 year of direct experience with adults with IDD (required).
• CAS experience preferred; travel within the region required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person CAS assessments in homes and community settings.
• Travel throughout the assigned region to meet individuals, families, and caregivers.
• Use person-centered methods to assess needs, strengths, and supports.
• Interview caregivers, service providers, and stakeholders to gather data.
• Enter data into state systems and ensure timely documentation.
• Coordinate interpreter services for non-English/Spanish-speaking participants.
• Maintain productivity and quality per program standards.

1st Choice is seeking a Coordinated Assessment System CAS Assessor to support a statewide initiative focused on ensuring adults with IDD receive the services and support they need to thrive. In this role, you will conduct person centered assessments using the CAS tool to help guide the development of individualized care and support plans.

TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT

Travel between assessment locations will be reimbursed. This includes mileage for personal vehicle use.

What You’ll Do

• Conduct in-person CAS assessments in homes and community-based settings.
• Travel throughout the assigned regionto meet with individuals, families, and caregivers.
• Use a person-centered approach to assess needs, strengths, and support requirements.
• Interview caregivers, service providers, and other stakeholders to gather accurate information.
• Review relevant records and incorporate multiple data sources to support assessment coding.
• Enter data into state-mandated systems and ensure timely, accurate documentation.
• Maintain productivity and quality standards as outlined by the program.
• Coordinate interpreter services as needed for non-English/Spanish-speaking participants.

What You Need:

Must have own car for daily travel between assessment locations

Public transportation and ridesharing are not permitted

Education

• Required: Bachelor's degree in a human services field
• Preferred: Master's degree in a related field

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of direct experience working with adults with IDD (required)
• Experience conducting assessments and prior CAS experience (preferred)

Skills & Competencies

• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage deadlines effectively
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, email, and web-based systems
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred

Other Requirements

• Valid NYS Driver’s License or NYS ID card
• Willingness to travel within the assigned region
