Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor - Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning is accepting applications for the position of Adult Basic Education (ABE). This contractual position involves teaching and learning in an adult maximum correctional facility.

Main Purpose of Job

The candidate will create a classroom environment where students make measurable progress towards goals, such as earning a Maryland Certificate of Achievement in Adult Literacy and Life Skills or a Maryland High School Diploma.

POSITION DUTIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: facilitating learning, lesson planning, participating in professional development and meetings, and other duties assigned by the principal or academic coordinator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Six years of planning and conducting employee development and training.
Notes: 1. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of related experience may substitute for the required experience.
2. Military service in education and training roles may substitute on a year-for-year basis.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of adult education or ESL experience.
