Job summary

Responsibilities include coordinating volunteers, staff supervision, and contract management; promoting program efficiency, safety and reporting; and leading the Nutrition Advisory Committee to improve service delivery for older adults in Rock County.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human services or equivalent; RD preferred or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of Older Americans Act Elder Nutrition Program and related regulations.
• Serve Safe Sanitation Training at hire or soon after.
• Experience with older adult programs and nonprofit/human services networks.

Responsibilities

Job description

Work involves responsibility for day-to-day management and administrative functions of the nutrition program and assuring the congregate and home delivered meals programs are administered according to state and federal regulations. This position also supports and promotes the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of the Human Services Department and performs in a manner consistent with the HSD Leadership Charter, Professional Standards, and "Commitment to My Co-Workers."

85% - Plan for, coordinate and maintain all activities pertaining to the Elder Nutrition Program according to the federal Older Americans Act and state regulations.

1. Obtain input from older adult participants regarding service delivery, including listening and responding to concerns.
2. Supervise the work of congregate dining centers to ensure adherence to all pertinent federal,
state and local policies and to ensure the program is operating within fiscal constraints.
a. Recruit, train, and monitor the work of dining site coordinators and volunteers.
b. Implement recognition strategies.
c. Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with dining site coordinators to meet training
requirements and regularly attend the sites to monitor activities.
d. Develop and maintain appropriate record-keeping documents to ensure proper data
reporting.
e. Coordinate special event menus and activities (pop-up sites) to encourage participation.
f. Maintain and distribute needed supplies.
g. Utilize marketing strategies to promote participation at congregate dining sites.
h. Conduct an annual participant satisfaction survey and implement programmatic
improvements.
i. Collect and organize documentation as required for the Assessment for the Elder Nutrition
Program.
j. Ensure the ongoing practice of safe food handling by developing and enforcing local
policies and procedures related to food safety and sanitation and by ensuring all training
and certification requirements are met.
3. Supervise the work of the Home Delivered Meal Program to ensure adherence to all pertinent
federal, state and local policies and to ensure the program is operating within fiscal
constraints.
a. Recruit and train volunteers to deliver meals to qualified homebound older adults and
implement recognition strategies.
b. Ensure intake process and follow-up visits are conducted (at the home), to ensure
participant eligibility.
c. Ensure appropriate referrals are made to meet other needs participants may have.
d. Request safety checks from law enforcement as appropriate.
e. Utilize marketing strategies to promote the program.
4. Maintain contract compliance by monitoring activities of the food caterer and registered
dietitian.
a. Ensure menu analysis is completed by contracted dietitian.
b. Monitor all aspects of the nutrition education component.
c. Review on-site observation reports and follow-up with site coordinators to address issues.
d. Refer "at nutritional risk" individuals to contracted dietitian for individual consultation.
e. Review and provide feedback to the contracted dietitian and caterer regarding menus.
f. Coordinate the daily ordering and delivery of meals with the caterer.
5. Ensure Peer Place data collection is being reported accurately and in a timely manner and
review relevant reports generated from the database.
6. Maintain, inform, and seek advice from the Nutrition Advisory Committee.
a. Prepare meeting agendas/review minutes.
b. Provide current information on relevant topics.
c. Implement Advisory Committee recommendations that will enhance program delivery.
d. Seek out and recruit for vacant Advisory positions.

10% - Coordinate and administer the annual Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program.

• Bachelor's degree in human services field, Registered Dietitian preferred or an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to effectively perform the functions of this position may be considered.
• Experience working with the older adults.
• Serve Safe Sanitation Training Certification required at time of hire or immediately thereafter.
• Knowledge of the Older Americans Act Elder Nutrition Program.
• Familiarity with non-profit and human services agencies in Rock County desirable.
• Ability to work weekends and evenings on occasion.
• Must have valid driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle for business-related travel.
• Must have personal, insured vehicle-pursuant to Wisconsin law.
• Occasional out-of-county travel is required.
• Knowledge of and proficiency in various computer software programs, including all Microsoft office products.
