Job summary

Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) is hiring for Child Welfare Specialist roles based in Shawnee or Chandler. The work focuses on safeguarding children and supporting families within Oklahoma's largest state agency. Extensive training is provided to new employees and on-call duties may apply.

Positions require travel and a valid driver's license; state vehicles may be available. Eligibility for a 5% salary incentive with a Master’s degree is described.

Qualifications

• Completion of 90 hours from an accredited college or university; OR 3 years of experience related to child welfare work; OR a combination of education and experience.
• A bachelor's degree (in any field) to qualify OR One year of experience as a Child Welfare Specialist.
• A Master's degree; OR a Bachelors Degree plus one year of experience as a Child Welfare Specialist; OR Two years of experience as a Child Welfare Specialist.

Responsibilities

• All New Employees will complete the Child Welfare Core Academy Training Program.
• Adoption services help eliminate barriers to adoption and find permanent families for every waiting child for whom adoption is the goal.
• Consults with other Child Welfare Specialists within other programs to assist in the identification and preparation of foster children for a successful transition with an adoptive family.
• Recruits, screens, and prepares prospective adoptive families.
• Assists with the adoption application process and approves or disapproves applicants.
• Participates in on-call rotation.
