Job summary

Suncoast Behavioral Health Center in Bradenton, FL seeks an Adolescent Residential Therapist to provide counseling for adolescents aged 11–17, including individual, family and group therapy, and to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

You will conduct psychosocial assessments, develop treatment objectives, coordinate discharge planning, and serve as a primary contact and advocate for patients and families during their stay; a Florida license and pediatric experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in social work or mental health counseling.
  • Florida license such as LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LMFTI or LMHCI required.
  • 1 year direct clinical experience with children/adolescents.
  • Must be able to participate in physical restraint and annual Handle With Care training.

Responsibilities

  • Provides group, individual, and family therapy as scheduled and documents responses.
  • Prepares Psychosocial Assessments for each patient within established time frames.
  • Oversees case management and discharge planning components of the Master Treatment Plan and reviews with patient and family.
  • Develops aftercare plans with the patient and arranges community support as appropriate.
  • Reports known or suspected abuse of patients.
  • Works cooperatively as a multidisciplinary team member to ensure quality patient care.

Responsibilities

Suncoast Behavioral Health Center provides quality mental health care and education services for adolescents, ages 11–17 who are experiencing behavioral, emotional, educational, family and social challenges. The dedicated professionals at Suncoast Behavioral Health Center provide quality mental health treatment for children. The program establishes healthy behaviors and prepares children to transition back home.

The Adolescent Residential Therapist is responsible for conducting therapeutic services for patients. They provide counseling sessions for families, individuals and groups. Therapists are responsible for interviewing and developing the psychological history, assessing the therapeutic needs of the individual and family, developing appropriate treatment objectives and monthly treatment summaries. Therapists act as the patients' and families' primary contact during the patient's stay at the facility, as well as their advocate with the treatment team. Therapists are also liaisons with outside agencies and individuals for the purpose of developing and coordinating discharge planning with the treatment team and family.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provides group, individual, and family therapy as scheduled and/or assigned, documenting patients'/ families' response to interventions.
  • Ensures a Psychosocial Assessment is prepared for each patient according to established time frames, assuring that all appropriate information is included and shared with treatment team members.
  • Oversees case management and discharge planning components of the patient's Master Treatment Plan and MTP reviews, documenting discussion of the plan with the patient and family as appropriate.
  • Develops appropriate aftercare plans with the patient, assessing the need and arranging for community agency support as appropriate and documenting it. Completes appointment sections of discharge sheet.
  • Reports known or suspected abuse of patients.
  • Works cooperatively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to achieve quality patient care.

Qualifications
Requirements:
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, mental health counseling.
  • Current license from the State of Florida, such as LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LMFTI or LMHCI required.
  • One (1) year direct clinical experience specific to family, individual and group therapy with children and/or adolescents. For specialized issues or treatment modalities, training must be specific to these; abuse reactive, sexual offending, substance abuse, sexual trauma, vocational, play therapy, art therapy and relaxation therapy. Must have knowledge of human development over the life span.
  • Work is mentally demanding. Extensive walking, standing and sitting. Must be able to participate in the physical restraint and seclusion of patients. Must be able to participate in and complete Handle With Care Training on an annual basis.
