Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, psychology or a related field.
  • CTRS preferred.
  • Experience with mental health populations and group facilitation.

Description

Skyland Trail, a nonprofit mental health residential treatment program for adults and adolescents in Atlanta, is seeking an Adolescent Recreational Therapist- PART TIME!

Monday thru Friday - No more than 32 hours per week

Scope:

  • Coordinating and providing Recreational Therapy as part of Adolescent clinical program, leading recreational/adjunctive therapy groups, and facilitating therapeutic enrichment activities. Provide socialization activities for Skyland Trail clients as part of the recreation program. Building new and innovative adjunctive therapy opportunities for client engagement.

Duties:

  • Organization of Recreation program; provide clinical assistance to groups, on-going events, activities, community outings, assist with the organization of monthly enrichment calendar, maintain monthly budget, and supervise recreational volunteers and staff
  • Work with Coordinator of Adjunctive Therapies and Residential Counselors to provide therapeutic enrichment groups on the weekends and weekday evenings
  • Plan and facilitate Day Treatment groups, assist with weekly community meeting, and all community activities throughout the year
  • Attend and participate in weekly supervision with supervisor, treatment team meeting, residential meeting, clinical supervision, and community meeting
  • Facilitation and documentation of individual sessions, discharge summary and plan, group notes, attendance, and recreational therapy assessments
  • Continue development of Recreation program by developing current protocols, policies, expectations, job responsibilities, and systems for growth at the adolescent campus
  • Conduct, plan, and implement therapeutic interventions, activities, retreats, and outings and other appropriate groups as part of recreation program
  • Orient and assess new clients to the adjunctive programs and opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Adjunctive Therapies
  • Drive facility van

Reports To: Director of Adjunctive Therapies and Coordinator of Adjunctive Therapies Adolescent campus

Competencies: The position should have sufficient preparedness in the following areas:

  • Strong group leadership through development of quality lesson plans, facilitation techniques, and client engagement.
  • Identify and support client needs and potential concerns/crisis and add additional clinical support, when needed.
  • Oversee client safety and engagement during community outings, activities/lessons, use of equipment and exercise.
  • Support other department and organization needs through collaboration, creation, and follow through.
  • Professional development through participation in Mental Health seminars, weekly clinical supervision, and in-service opportunities.
  • Mentor Adjunctive Therapy interns (and all interns as appropriate) through connection, teachable moments, feedback, and opportunities to learn and grow.
  • Represent Adjunctive Therapies in clinical treatment meetings through clinical and relevant client observation, insight, and ideas to progress client recovery.
  • Ability to timely and appropriately document client assessment, progress, concerns, and treatment recommendations
  • Knowledge of recreational therapy/activities
  • Diagnostic skills, knowledge of mental illness and its treatment
  • Customer service, effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Physically able to lead activities
  • Safe driving record
  • Knowledge of safety, risk management, and emergency procedures, CPR/First Aid procedures
  • Openness to change; forward thinking, flexibility

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelors degree in recreational therapy, psychology, or related field in mental health
  • CTRS - Certified Therapeutic Recreational Therapist, preferred
  • Experience working with mental health population
  • Experience in group planning and facilitation
  • Prior experience in providing activities, events, and community outing
