The Tennessee Department of Health’s Division of Family Health and Wellness is seeking a contract Adolescent Health Program Coordinator to lead statewide adolescent health initiatives that improve youth health and well-being. This role serves as the subject-matter expert for adolescent health and positive youth development, ensuring youth perspectives guide public health strategies, programs, partnerships, and data-informed decisions across Tennessee.
Adolescent Health Program Coordinator
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of adolescent health programs and Tennessee’s Adolescent Health Strategic Plan.
- Provide statewide leadership for initiatives that promote healthy youth development and improve adolescent health outcomes.
- Coordinate Sources of Strength suicide prevention, Screenagers: Under the Influence, Tennessee Generations, youth engagement strategies, and MCHBG Social Emotional Well-Being Priority activities.
- Build partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, community organizations, youth-serving agencies, adolescents, and state/local partners.
- Identify emerging adolescent health needs and support strategies related to healthy relationships, sexual health education, pregnancy prevention, dating violence prevention, nutrition, physical activity, and overall well-being.
- Provide technical assistance, consultation, training, grant support, reporting, presentations, program monitoring, evaluation, data analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Represent TDH on statewide and national committees, workgroups, conferences, and collaborative initiatives.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of adolescent development, positive youth development, public health practices, strategic planning, grants, program evaluation, and performance measurement.
- Experience developing, managing, implementing, and evaluating public health programs or initiatives.
- Strong written, verbal, public speaking, facilitation, technical writing, organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and project management skills.
- Ability to build partnerships, collaborate with diverse groups, manage multiple priorities independently, work across teams, and use Microsoft Office applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, Health Education, Social Work, Behavioral Science, Education, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience in adolescent health, public health, program management, strategic planning, or a related field.
- Preferred experience includes statewide initiatives, grants, community-based public health programs, adolescents, schools, healthcare providers, youth-serving organizations, grant writing, planning, evaluation, and state government.
- Applicants must reside in Tennessee at hire and maintain Tennessee residency as a condition of employment.
- Successful background check required.
- New hires must report in person to Nashville for onboarding and equipment deployment.
- Hybrid work environment with periodic in-person meetings in Nashville; travel to the Nashville office is not reimbursed.
- Ability to travel across Tennessee as needed and out of state approximately four times per year for conferences, federal meetings, and professional development.
- Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST, 37.5 hours per week; not eligible for overtime.
