Job summary

UCI Health, a leading California academic health system, seeks a diligent Patient Access representative to support scheduling, registration, pre-admission, admission, and discharge processes across multiple service areas.

You will collect complete and accurate patient demographics, verify insurance and consent requirements, and ensure compliant, timely liability collection before, during, and after the date of service.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of PC/CRT/printer.
  • Customer service skills and experience.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to receive and express detailed information through oral and written communications.
  • Course in Medical Terminology required.
  • Must be able to perform essential job duties in at least two Patient Access service areas including ED.
  • Uses proper negotiation techniques to professionally collect money owed by our Patients/Guarantors.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships across internal/external clients.
  • Must interpret physician orders and insurance cards accurately.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the duties.
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.

Your Role on the Team
Position Summary

Responsible for duties in support of departmental efficiencies which may include: but not limited to performing scheduling, registration, patient pre-admission and admission, reception and discharge functions. Must obtain complete and accurate patient demographic information. Patient Access representatives also must employ proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during & after date of service.

  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Preferred Qualifications
  • Administrative experience in medical facility, health insurance, or related area preferred
  • Some college coursework is preferred
  • Knowledge of function and relationships within a hospital environment preferred
  • Understanding of Third Party Payor requirements preferred
  • Understanding of Compliance standards preferred
  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
