Job description

Under the direction and supervision of the Manager, the Admitting/ED Registrar registers and admits patients in the hospital information system, verifies insurance eligibility, collects copayments, makes outgoing and receives incoming phone calls, interacts with internal and external customers, and collaborates with others in the department and hospital to ensure an efficient and effective patient and financial flow.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Deliver outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
  2. Ensure the integrity of data in the hospital's information system, Epic, regarding patient demographic, insurance, and admission information.
  3. Review bed requests and assign bed placements for inpatient units.
  4. Obtain authorizations from health insurance companies for admitted patients.
  5. Verify patient insurance using various methods and apply knowledge of payor requirements to ensure effective reimbursement.
  6. Assist in ensuring adequate departmental coverage, including covering in the Admitting or Emergency Department as needed.
  7. Participate in holiday coverage rotation.
  8. Conduct inpatient interviews and secure patient valuables.
  9. Document accurate information on all patient accounts to ensure workflow efficiency.
  10. Handle difficult situations using effective problem-solving skills.
  11. Serve as a resource for patients and others regarding registration, insurance, and patient admission questions.
  12. Collect insurance copays from patients.
  13. Collaborate to ensure a positive and effective patient experience.
  14. Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with constant interruptions.
  15. Maintain flexible availability to accommodate work coverage requests.
  16. Type accurately at least 40 words per minute.
  17. Relate effectively to various customers in a professional and courteous manner.
  18. Utilize supervisor or manager to resolve issues as needed.
  19. Attend and participate in departmental meetings.
  20. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Hours

Wednesday 8:30am-7pm; Thursday - Saturday 6:30am - 5:00pm
