Job summary

Ascension Saint Thomas Behavioral Health Hospital in Nashville is seeking an Admissions Registered Nurse to manage the intake process for adults 18–65 in an inpatient psychiatric setting. You will review documentation, coordinate admissions, verify insurance, and collaborate with medical and psychiatric teams to determine level of care.

This role uses multiple electronic systems to track referrals, supports timely pre-authorizations, and ensures patient safety and compassionate customer service

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certifications required.
• Associate degree in Nursing is required.
• Minimum of 1 year of clinical or observational experience.

Responsibilities

• Review medical documentation for admissions and obtain admission orders.
• Facilitate emergency transfers for patients when needed.
• Review referrals for medical/behavioral acuity and respond within policy timeframes.
• Verify insurance benefits and secure initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission.
• Conduct assessments to determine level of care and coordinate with medical/psychiatric teams.
• Complete admissions process including assessment, consent, and inventory of belongings.
• Maintain accurate medical records to support payor authorization and admission decisions.
• Provide empathetic, professional service and ensure patient safety throughout admission.
