Job Title: Admissions Officer- Temporary
Department: Admissions
Classification: Exempt
Grade: 10
FTE/Working Schedule: 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week); Temporary twelve-month position with an anticipated end date in September 2027.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Admissions & Director of International Recruitment, the Admissions Officer serves as a professional member of the Admissions team charged with the recruitment and selection of diverse, bright, highly engaged, creative and intellectual students from across the United States and around the world.

Working Schedule

The Admissions Officer - Temporary role is a twelve-month, 40 hours per week position with an anticipated end date in September 2027. Extension of the position is possible, contingent on staffing and budgetary needs.

Compensation

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $59,800 and $61,800. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
  • Participates in all aspects of the general admission cycle, including:
    • Reading of first-year and transfer applications; with the intent to recommend students for admission.
    • Leading information sessions, to provide a refined overview of the liberal arts experience at Carleton.
    • Conducting on- and off-campus individual interviews, to assess a student’s interest in and fit for admission.
    • Advising prospective students on admission and financial aid policies and practices in written and verbal communication.
    • Reporting and monitoring
    • Onboarding to manage a recruitment territory, working in consultation with the Director and others to design and execute targeted recruitment travel starting in the spring of 2027.
  • Represent the College to external agencies and groups, including attending regional conferences and meetings to maintain the College’s visibility.
  • Works to creation and encourage an open, welcoming, and inclusive environment that actively supports prospective students and their families to appreciate Carleton’s academic and cultural life and deep tradition in the liberal arts.
  • Coordinates special projects/tasks and/or provides assistance to divisional programming and events as assigned.
Supervision Received and Exercised

Education/Experience/Skills
Required
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Some demonstrable exposure to admissions or related recruitment experience.
  • Strong understanding of the nature and aims of a selective, residential liberal arts college.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-based skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex issues with clarity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization, details, and deadlines.
  • A commitment to strengthening inclusion, diversity, and equity at the divisional and institutional level.
  • Enthusiasm for and demonstrated commitment to supporting a student body that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and religion, among other factors.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • A willingness and ability to work extended and weekend hours during peak periods.
  • Leadership skills: Highly collaborative, dynamic, optimistic, empathetic, patient, and fun.
Preferred
  • Prior experience with Slate CRM and/or WordPress.
  • Comfort reading, writing, and speaking in a language other than English.

Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
