Responsibilities

University Behavioral Center, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), provides intensive mental health services to children, adolescents and adults, as well as detox and substance abuse programs for adults. The facility offers safe and effective inpatient treatment on a 14-acre campus in Orlando, Florida with 112 licensed beds. The Intake Manager assures smooth admissions under the direction of the Director of Intake, receives admission inquiry calls, assesses patients for admission, and makes appropriate referrals. The Manager participates in staff evaluation, shift leadership, and assigns tasks to complete all admissions duties for their shift.

  • Assist the Director of Admissions with managing the overall function of the admissions department.
  • Supervise admission staff.
  • Provide ongoing training, coaching, and professional development to ensure staff competency and adherence to best practices.
  • Serve as acting Director in their absence.
  • Oversee the intake and assessment process to ensure prompt and accurate evaluation of patients seeking behavioral health services.
  • Coordinate with clinical, medical, and administrative departments to facilitate smooth patient transitions.
  • Monitor daily admissions activity, including inquiry call volume, conversion rates, and occupancy trends.
  • Support after-hours admissions protocols and ensure adequate coverage and responsiveness.
  • Ensure all admissions documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Generate and analyze reports on admissions metrics.
  • Identify trends and make recommendations to improve patient access and service delivery.
  • Assist in achieving department and facility goals, including census targets.
  • Serve as a liaison between the admissions department and other departments.
  • Maintain effective communication with referral sources, patients, families, etc.
  • Participate in management meetings and strategic planning discussions.

Qualifications

  • Must have the ability to work under stressful circumstances with frequent interruptions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate with patients, families, referral sources, community agencies, and staff.
  • Knowledge of telephone etiquette.
  • Must be able to interact with patients, physicians, families and hospital personnel in a professional and courteous manner.
