Job description

We are expanding! San Jose Behavioral Health is a 133-bed inpatient mental health facility in northern California where adult men, women, and adolescents can receive comprehensive inpatient treatment for a range of behavioral and mental health disorders. Conveniently located in the heart of San Jose and easily accessible to residents in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Alameda counties, our campus is situated amid gently rolling hills with serene views of natural surroundings.

Job Summary

The Admissions Counselor works directly with physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals around the Bay Area to screen candidates for admission, perform insurance verifications, conduct intake assessments, and communicate directly with patients and their loved ones upon arrival at our facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Facilitate intake, admission, and utilization review processes for incoming patients.
  • Perform insurance benefit verifications and disseminate the information to patients, their families, and internal staff.
  • Provide ongoing assessments of patient status during admission and utilization processes.
  • Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
  • Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, communicating recommendations to patients or their families.
  • Collaborate with medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure appropriate admissions.
  • Provide education to patients and families throughout their stay.
  • Perform ongoing assessments of physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and financial needs, and implement crisis interventions and referrals as needed.
  • Educate patients and families about healthcare and social resource systems to empower independent access to resources.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a social services field required (if allowed by the state).
  • Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing, or RN preferred.
  • One or more years of experience in mental/behavioral health with clinical or observational work preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Current licensure relevant to the clinical specialty, e.g., RN license, CAC, or other counseling/therapy license as designated by the state.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training provided upon hire).
  • First aid may be required depending on state or facility policies.

COMPENSATION

Salary varies based on location, role, experience, and skill set. For roles in California, the typical hourly range is:

SJBH Range = $29.00/hour - $45.00/hour - DOE

Master's or Bachelor's degree in relevant fields.
