Job description

We are expanding! San Jose Behavioral Health is a 133-bed inpatient mental health facility in northern California, providing comprehensive inpatient treatment for adults and adolescents with behavioral and mental health disorders. Located in San Jose, our campus offers serene views and easy access for residents of Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Alameda Counties.

Job Summary

The Admissions Counselor collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals in the bay area to screen candidates for admission, verify insurance, conduct intake assessments, and communicate with patients and families upon arrival at our facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Facilitate intake, admission, and utilization review processes.
  • Verify insurance benefits and communicate findings to patients, families, and internal staff.
  • Assess patient status during admission and utilization processes.
  • Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
  • Schedule and conduct pre-admission assessments, communicating recommendations to patients or families.
  • Coordinate with medical and psychiatric staff to ensure appropriate admissions.
  • Provide ongoing education and assessments to patients and families throughout their stay.
  • Assess physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and financial needs, and implement crisis interventions and referrals.
  • Educate patients and families about healthcare and social resources to promote independence.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a social services field (if permitted by state).
  • Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing, or RN preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in mental/behavioral health in a clinical or observational capacity preferred.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Current licensure relevant to the clinical specialty (e.g., RN license, CAC, or other counseling/therapy license).
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification (training provided upon hire).
  • First aid may be required depending on state or facility policies.

COMPENSATION

Salary varies based on factors like location, role, experience, and skills. The hourly range for roles in California is approximately $29.00 to $45.00, depending on experience.
