Job Description

Overview of Admissions Counselor

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for working closely with the Director of Admissions and covering those duties whenever the Director is unavailable. Responsibilities include conducting admissions interviews and screenings, leading campus tours, reviewing referrals for day and residential programs (with a focus on day referrals), and performing duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions. The ideal candidate must be personable, effective in working with families, and collaborative with clinical, residential, and school departments. Maintaining strong relationships with internal teams and external agencies is essential, along with representing Andrus professionally at meetings.

Schedule: Generally, 9am - 5pm weekdays. The role accrues 4 weeks of vacation annually.

Essential Functions
  • Review referrals, including educational and clinical documentation, to determine fit for Andrus programs.
  • Conduct intake interviews to assess program suitability.
  • Coordinate admission decisions with the Assistant Director and other department heads.
  • Ensure receipt of all required documentation in collaboration with CSE/DSS.
  • Lead tours of facilities and programs for students, families, and stakeholders.
  • Partner with an interdisciplinary team to facilitate admissions.
  • Monitor and maintain the campus census to ensure program viability.
  • Network and market to stakeholders, maintaining professional relationships.
  • Serve as the Acting Director in admissions in their absence.
  • Improve the intake experience for students and families.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments for students’ first day of admission.
  • Oversee admissions targets and deliverables.
  • Market and present to school districts, hospitals, advocacy groups, and parents.
  • Implement recruitment strategies to increase census and enrollment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s in social work or related field preferred.
  • Clinical background and experience with at-risk families, childhood trauma, abuse, or family violence preferred.
  • Fluent in written and spoken Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Word & Excel.
  • Knowledge of child development, psychosocial dynamics, and child abuse and neglect.
  • Supervisory skills and understanding of administrative policies.
  • Valid Class D driver’s license in good standing for at least 3 years.
