Admissions Counselor for Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, Math and Physics
Position Description Other responsibilities may be assigned according to the counselor’s strengths and giftedness, with a focus on supporting Biola’s efforts to expand its reach in technology and engineering education. Extensive travel throughout the region is required, with a focus on attending STEM fairs, visiting high schools with strong science and engineering programs, and engaging with STEM-related organizations. Evening and weekend hours are required. Qualifications: COMMUNICATION SKILLS: This position requires excellent interpersonal communication skills; must be able to successfully interact with both students and adults, including staff, faculty, and parents. It also requires drafting correspondence; proofreading correspondence for spelling, grammar and content errors. Bilingual capabilities are preferred but not required. DECISION MAKING: The responsibilities of this position typically involve considerable planning ability, decision-making and evaluation of projects/assignments regarding a variety of procedures, plans and schedules. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Experience in, sensitivity to, and understanding of effectively working with college-age and high school-age students, faculty, and staff. The Admissions Counselor will play a crucial role in building relationships, awareness, and enthusiasm for Biola University, with a particular focus on students interested in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, and related fields. The counselor will execute recruitment initiatives, cultivate relationships with relevant audiences, and promote programming that attracts diverse populations of prospective freshman and transfer students, especially those in STEM disciplines. This role involves creating and implementing strategies to recruit and enroll prospective students from a specific geographic area, with a special emphasis on students pursuing majors in high-demand technology and engineering areas. Strategies will include recruiting travel, phone calls, emails, texts, interviews, on-campus appointments, tours, etc. The counselor will also work on showcasing Biola’s academic strengths in STEM, particularly Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, Math and Physics, during recruitment events and interactions with students, parents, and educators.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university, with preference given to those with a background in STEM-related disciplines, or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Duties
Effectively plan, coordinate, execute, and track strategies to reach prospects, applicants, and admitted students, with special focus on those pursuing STEM fields, to achieve enrollment goals for a specified territory. Use data to analyze the needs of students interested in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, Math and Physics, and related disciplines, and coordinate activities that meet the needs of students and stakeholders in these fields.
Coordinate and execute outreach activities and recruitment events, including those aimed at promoting Biola’s strengths in STEM, to support territory and enrollment goals. Establish relationships with STEM teachers, robotics clubs, guidance counselors, and other influencers in designated territories. Plan visits to high schools, STEM fairs, and industry events to engage with prospective students in science and technology-related areas.
Participate in and assist with optimizing on-campus and off-campus recruiting events highlighting Biola’s programs in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, Math and Physics. This may also require management responsibilities from the Admissions Counselor.
Deliver informative presentations, both on and off campus, emphasizing Biola’s innovative programs in technology and engineering, as well as general admissions information and financial aid.
Engage with prospects, applicants, admits, confirmed students, and parents about Biola University’s admissions requirements, with special attention to STEM programs and next steps for admission and enrollment.
Carefully review applicant files and make admissions decisions, with a focus on students applying for Computer Science, Engineering, and Robotics programs. Manage a student application caseload of anywhere from 300-500 applications a year, ensuring students interested in these majors are assessed with their unique academic and extracurricular backgrounds in mind.
Collaborate with faculty and staff in STEM departments, particularly Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, Math and Physics, to support recruitment efforts, design presentations, and ensure an integrated approach to attracting students in technology-related fields.
Require skills/Qualifications: Through training and experience on the job, Admissions Counselors will be expected to develop the key competencies listed below.
