Job Description

The University of Indianapolis is seeking applicants for a full-time, exempt Admissions Counselor. As a representative of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Indianapolis, the Admissions Counselor supports access to higher education by providing outreach and effective enrollment assistance to a diverse population of prospective students. Working closely with their supervisor, Admissions Counselors are responsible for designing, implementing, and analyzing an effective recruiting and enrollment strategy. Strategies must drive and support annual enrollment goals, increase awareness, and contribute to the University's overall success and programs. The Admissions Counselor collaborates with the larger recruiting team, marketing office, financial aid, advising, and academic departments to meet the goals for assigned projects and portfolios.

This position is eligible for hybrid employment, with weekly on-campus expectations and regular on-site recruitment events throughout the academic year.

Experience

REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two years of professional experience in recruitment, sales, customer service, and/or marketing
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Products
  • Professional experience in higher education (preferred)
  • Experience using Google Products (preferred)
  • Experience with a customer relationship management system (CRM) (preferred)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Ability to work independently, as well as within teams of colleagues, and possess the aptitude for detail-oriented tasks

  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing with strong cross-cultural interpersonal skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations
  • Valid driver's license and a clear or acceptable driving record according to the University’s policies
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends on a frequent basis

Essential Functions

  • Delivers exceptional first-class customer service while working in a competitive and fast-paced environment
  • Meets with students and families during campus/virtual visits to explain the application process, scholarship opportunities, and personal interest connections and answers all questions
  • Collaborates with the program director to set goals for assigned programs in regard to inquiries, applications, campus visitors, accepted students, and enrolled students
  • Participates in recruiting events during the year, including Preview Days, Open Houses, Interview Days, Info Sessions, and other campus-wide recruitment events as assigned
  • Represents the University independently at events, fairs, and conferences both on and off campus to prospective students, families, influencers, and community partners
  • Speaks publicly on behalf of the University to individuals, groups, faculty/staff, or community partners on and off campus, potentially incorporating individual presentations, marketing collateral, and/or university/programmatic talking points
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers, and program leadership
  • Builds relationships with college and independent career counselors and academic advisors, employers, and industry professionals; invites them to visit campus or attend other campus events as appropriate
  • Interprets enrollment reports related to assigned programs and develops recruitment strategies that support the program’s efforts to reach enrollment goals
  • Provides a strong contribution to the admissions recruitment team through the building of positive peer relationships, assisting all members of the team, and bringing forward professional suggestions for improvement
  • Plans, promotes, and executes high-value events, including, but not limited to, open houses, informational sessions, networking events, and various other lead generation and nurtures conversion/enrollment events for the University
  • Thorough engagement and relationship building, accurately assesses the needs and interests of a diverse population of prospective students and then determines the appropriate information, counseling, and follow-up strategies to ensure those needs are met or exceeded
  • Develops the knowledge of the admissions process to interpret academic information from diverse colleges; effectively evaluates student academic preparation, credentials, and grade trends; and independently utilizes good judgment on administering or informing admissions decisions based upon the University’s admissions policies and procedures
  • Strategically plan off-site visits and other out-of-office requirements and independently manages time and productivity effectively when away from the office
  • Provides necessary data for accreditation reports and collaborates with program leadership to ensure admissions processes are in compliance
  • Follow the guidance and direction of supervisor(s)
  • Demonstrate respectful, ethical, and responsible behavior
  • Abide by the University’s policies, procedures, and rules
  • Perform employee responsibilities as detailed in employee handbooks and policies
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance and punctuality
  • Other duties, including special projects, as required or assigned
