Job description

Overview

Belmont Behavioral Hospital is seeking an Admissions Counselor to join the Admissions team. The clinical professional will be responsible for facilitating admissions, conducting clinical intake assessments, and managing utilization review processes to ensure continuity of care at the most appropriate level for patients and optimal resource utilization.

Shifts available: 7:00 am - 7:30 pm and 7:00 pm - 7:30 am.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a social services field (if permitted by state) or a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing, or an RN license required in Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Perform benefit eligibility checks and communicate benefits to the business office and patients.
  • Collaborate with medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure appropriate referrals.
  • Coordinate admissions and transfers within the facility.
  • Maintain knowledge of milieu management.
  • Communicate projected admissions promptly.
  • Ensure receipt of all clinical information prior to admission when possible.
  • Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with physicians, and communicate recommendations.
  • Prepare and maintain medical documentation for authorization.
  • Complete pre-authorization and admit patients in the system, ensuring all forms are signed.
  • Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude, prioritizing patient safety.

Other Functions:

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Master's degree in a relevant social services field or RN license in PA.
  • At least three years of experience in mental/behavioral health preferred.
  • Experience with managed care pre-certification, level of care assessments, and utilization management preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current licensure as required for the clinical specialty (e.g., RN, CAC, or other licensed professional).
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training provided upon hire).
  • First aid may be required depending on state or facility policies.
