Job summary

Eastern Oregon University is seeking an Admissions Counselor to represent the university to prospective students and families, develop recruitment initiatives, and manage programs across assigned geographic territories. You will present to large and small groups, plan recruitment travel, and support campus visit programs.

The role requires strong communication and public speaking skills, experience in outreach, and the ability to track data and expenses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or equivalent.
• Experience working with high school, community college, non-traditional, or underrepresented student populations is desirable.
• Knowledge of undergraduate student experiences, admissions requirements, financial aid, and transfer programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Admissions Department at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) has a dynamic career opportunity for an outgoing, enthusiastic, and energetic professional who enjoys meeting new people, collaborating with a great team, and achieving results in higher education through its Admissions Department as an Admissions Counselor.

Admission counselors are responsible for representing Eastern Oregon University to multiple constituencies, including prospective students, families, schools, and community contacts. The incumbent will develop and maintain recruitment initiatives to meet overall university enrollment goals. The Admission Counselor will execute and assess programs within assigned geographic territories, present to large and small groups, plan recruitment travel, monitor recruitment expenses, and provide support to the campus visit program.

Incumbent advises and counsels prospective students about EOU undergraduate academic offerings and overall student experience including representing EOU and recruiting prospective students for EOU at multiple events and regional schools. Admissions Counselors are responsible for building a stronger presence and cultivating meaningful relationships to effectively explain, admission policies and next steps to students and to provide outstanding customer service.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for researching assigned territories and addressing the needs of the students.
• Serves as the main point of contact for high school or transfer students from those areas that are seeking an undergraduate degree from Eastern Oregon University.
• Develops and maintains recruitment plan and tracks success of initiatives.
• Uses software to track individual communication with students, analyze trends, track data to make recommendations to meet the university enrollment goals.
• Advises and counsels prospective students about EOU undergraduate studies and courses.
• Explains Admission policies and next steps and families to students and provide outstanding customer service to all who interact with Admissions.
• Assists in daily interactions with prospective and current students and families through EOU campus visit program, conduct campus tours if needed.
• Provides support for all events that Admissions hosts including but not limited to Preview Days, Mountaineer Days, Discover Your Future.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
• Valid state driver's license with responsible driving record.

At least one (1) year of experience in the following areas:

Academic Affairs

• Working in education or with high school, community college, non-traditional, or underrepresented student populations.
• Developing or supporting outreach programming for underrepresented youth.
• Knowledge of undergraduate student experiences, program offerings, admissions requirements, financial aid, student activities, athletics, and transfer programs.
• Understanding of university policies, academic rules and procedures, general education requirements, budgetary policies and procedures, and the recruitment and admissions cycle.
• Ability to understand and apply EOU admissions and university policies.

Communication

• Demonstrated strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
• Communicating and presenting effectively to individuals and groups in a variety of settings, including in person, by phone, and email.
• Providing quality customer service and demonstrating a commitment to cultural understanding.
• Working effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.

Systems

• Using computer systems, multimedia, and electronic communication tools.
• Using software systems for student recruitment or data collection.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Working effectively in a team environment while demonstrating self-motivation and initiative.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
• Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
• Familiarity with EOU admissions/university policies.
• Bilingual (Spanish, Marshallese, Palauan, or an FSM language)
