Position Overview
ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. The employee must be a professing Christian and support the Christian mission of ACU. This position reports to the Director of Admissions & Marketing and is responsible for recruiting graduate students to ACU.
Responsibilities
- Conduct student conversations and appointments to identify educational goals and disseminate program information to potential students.
- Advise potential students about enrollment, transferability, applicability of prior education, program options, requirements, and progress.
- Provide information on university policies, practices, and rules, using judgment and discretion.
- Assist potential students regarding financial obligations in partnership with university financial staff.
- Use professional knowledge and perspective to relate to new and potential students to establish professional rapport and add to the student experience.
- Provide effective communication with potential and/or current students via telephone, email, and/or in person.
- Use critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to address and resolve student issues and ensure positive student experiences.
- Address potential and/or current student concerns and seek appropriate resolution to problems.
- Assist students by performing appropriate follow‑up and coordination with team members.
- Monitor student participation and progress through the enrollment process to ensure alignment with university policies.
- Proactively identify potential barriers within the student enrollment process and initiate steps resulting in resolution.
- Demonstrate personal and professional integrity (code of ethics).
- Assist students in making informed decisions by providing ethical, timely, accurate, and comprehensive enrollment options and program information.
- Display public support and pride in company initiatives, assist others in seeing the positive aspects of a new initiative, and be seen by other team members as a positive influence.
- Assist with additional work duties or responsibilities as evident or required, and perform other duties as assigned or apparent.
Skills
- High-level knowledge of the higher education market and industry.
- High-level understanding of business, education, technology, counseling, and/or nursing programs of study.
- Student- and advisor-oriented with the ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
- Customer service or advising experience in an educational environment entailing one‑on‑one interaction is highly preferred.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills to accurately convey university information.
- Excellent command of professional presentation skills and comfort presenting to groups both large and small.
- Self‑motivated and able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Computer literate and able to learn proprietary software applications.
Training Modules Required
- Complete New Hire Training Period.
- Technology Tools Training.
- Other training as development needs dictate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred (ACU graduate highly preferred).
- Utilize critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Goal‑oriented and driven to assist people with meeting their educational goals.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Must be able to travel; must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must have flexible hours conducive to contacting students when available.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands
- Use telephone or headset equipment and work at a computer in a cubicle.
- Work performed in an office environment; sit for 6–8 hours at a time.
- May perform manual operations of general office equipment and lift up to 30 pounds.
- Limited travel may be required; some overnight travel may be necessary.
