Miami University’s Office of Admission seeks an energetic, creative, and collaborative individual to serve as an admission counselor for first-year recruitment. You will manage a recruitment territory with 6–8 weeks of travel, review applications, and maintain relationships with prospective students and families.

The role includes recruiting underrepresented and international students, coordinating on- and off-campus visits and events, and managing the university’s group visit program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required by start date.
  • Senior Counselor: Bachelor’s plus 2+ years recruitment/admission experience; or Master’s plus 1 year.
  • Must be able to travel evenings, overnights, weekends and lift 30–40 lbs.; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the university at on- and off-campus events and campaigns.
  • Provide exceptional guidance to prospective students and families through the admission process.

Summary

Miami University’s Office of Admission seeks an energetic, creative, and collaborative individual to serve as an admission counselor for first‑year recruitment. In partnership with admission team members, the admission counselor will manage a first‑year recruitment territory to include 6‑8 weeks of travel, application review, and relationship management. The role also involves recruiting underrepresented and international students, coordinating on‑ and off‑campus visits and events, and managing the university’s group visit program. This position is eligible for hybrid work.

Essential Duties
  • Develop knowledge of Miami University programs, opportunities, and policies and represent the university at on‑ and off‑campus events and campaigns.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and personalized guidance to prospective students and families throughout the admission process, embodying the university’s Code of Love and Honor.
  • Build and maintain relationships with school counselors in the assigned territory.
  • Manage the recruitment territory, including planning and conducting 8‑12 weeks of recruitment travel, following up with students and families, and monitoring enrollment trends to meet enrollment goals.
  • Participate in electronic file review for undergraduate first‑year, honors, and pre‑college programs, adhering to all deadlines and conducting contextual and holistic review to recommend admission decisions.
  • Organize, coordinate, and manage on‑ and off‑campus recruitment events, high school counselor programs, and high‑ability programming.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Admission Counselor: Bachelor’s Degree (must be obtained by start date).
  • Senior Admission Counselor: Bachelor’s Degree plus two or more years of recruitment cycle or admission experience; or Master’s Degree plus one year of experience.
  • Must be able to work evenings, overnight or weekend travel, transport 30‑40 lbs. of recruiting materials, and possess a valid driver’s license.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Experience with computer systems and software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Political savvy, diplomatic, positive work ethic, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Dynamic group presentation skills and commitment to working with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, handling multiple tasks simultaneously with high attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree.
  • 1‑2 years’ experience in higher education, recruitment, marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience with customer relations database (Slate).
  • Experience working with school counselors, community‑based organizations, alumni volunteers.
  • Event planning experience.
  • Data analysis experience.
