Job summary

University of Minnesota Crookston is seeking an Admissions Counselor for online and transfer admissions. This full-time, 12-month position involves travel, evening/weekend hours, and working to attract, recruit, and admit students to the Crookston campus.

As part of a hands-on experiential learning environment, you will develop recruitment plans, present to prospective students and families, and collaborate with campus partners to build an inclusive community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree by start date; master's preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Excellent public speaking abilities.
  • Willingness to travel 12 weeks annually.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement recruitment plans for assigned territory.
  • Conduct on-campus, off-campus, and virtual recruitment outreach.
  • Plan events: open houses, fairs, orientations, and regional programs.
  • Present information to prospective students and families.
  • Advise applicants on educational options and program fit.
  • Monitor trends and adjust recruitment strategies.
  • Review applications and communicate admissions decisions.
  • Maintain knowledge of UMN Crookston degree programs and policies.
  • Utilize CRM Slate and student records databases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR – ONLINE & TRANSFER
POSITION
Full-time, 12 month position
A key member of the admissions team, an Admissions Counselor must be enthusiastic, highly-motivated, and have the ability to articulate the values and objectives of a hands-on-experiential learning atmosphere, to attract, recruit, and admit students to UMN Crookston. This person will assist in building a diverse, inclusive campus and living community for the Crookston campus.
The individual selected will represent UMN Crookston by providing high quality service to prospective students and their families, and collaborating with members of the campus to support students and advance efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. The duties of the position will require travel, including extended overnight stays, and flexible evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities
  • Working with the Assistant Director of Recruitment, develop and implement a recruitment plan tailored for assigned territory to meet short-term and long-term goals.
  • Conduct student recruitment and outreach activities on and off campus, as well as virtually.
  • Plans and participates in recruitment and enrollment activities, including: open houses, regional presentations, orientation programs, career days, regional and national college fairs, virtual events, and build brand awareness and reputation.
  • Develops and presents public presentations designed to promote the University.
  • Meets with prospective students and parents to provide individual counseling on educational options and alternatives.
  • Monitors student behavior trends and adjusts recruiting plan accordingly.
  • Reviews applications and makes admissions decisions based on academic requirements and program choice compatibility.
  • Engages in extensive phone calls and email communication to applicants within assigned recruitment territory.
  • Meet individual recruitment goals and objectives.
  • Anticipates and responds to the needs of guests from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Participates in advancing UMN Crookston’s efforts to build an inclusive and respectful campus community.
  • Participate in training programs to develop professionally and become fully informed about the University and recruiting strategies.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current UMN Crookston degree programs, policies, and major content.
  • Will work with technology, such as CRM’s (Slate), and student records databases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree earned by start date with at least two years of professional experience, or master's degree
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Excellent public speaking and writing skills, and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, phone and video-conferencing etiquette
  • Excellent ability to interact and serve individuals from diverse backgrounds and age groups
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 12 weeks annually, including extended overnight stays, and flexible evening and weekend hours
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in college admissions, college counseling, or in related areas of higher education.
  • Experience as undergraduate admissions intern, student ambassador, student life or student activities leadership experience, or student volunteer experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with socioeconomically diverse populations such as non-traditional, first-generation, and low-income individuals.
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a team atmosphere, and with a minimum of direct supervision.
  • Familiarity with the University and the surrounding communities desired.
  • Experience organizing and planning programs and public presentations.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:$48,000 - $52,000 per year depending on education/qualifications/experience
