Located in the Student Success Center, this full-time role reports to the Director of Student Success and Academic Advising and includes managing a partial academic advising caseload while coordinating tutoring services across online and on-campus programs.

About the Job

Position Overview:

Position Overview

This position is located in the Student Success Center and reportsto the Director of Student Success and Academic Advising. Theposition will maintain a partial academic advising caseload.Additionally, the Academic Advisor and Tutoring ServicesCoordinator will coordinate the operations of the University’sTutoring Services (excluding the Writing Center), supporting arange of academic assistance programs including one-on-onetutoring, online tutoring, group tutoring sessions, and academiccoaching. The Academic Advisor and Tutoring Services Coordinatorwill help implement inclusive, data driven academic support for allUMN Crookston students. This position will collaborate acrosscampus with a variety of academic, student affairs, and otherdepartments.

Compensation and Term
  • 12-month, full-time annual renewable position.
  • Compensation commensurate with experience, qualifications, andacademic discipline.

Job Duties
General Academic Advising (45%)
  • Provide dedicated support to both online and on-campus studentsby applying knowledge of curricular options, requirements, andpolicies to assist an assigned advising caseload, while supportingcomprehensive advising efforts through the Student SuccessCenter.
  • Review student records and progress, making short-termregistration suggestions and multi-semester plans that promotedegree progress and attainment while optimizing collegiateengagement experiences.
  • As appropriate, meet with students in-person or via virtualvideo conferencing platforms, to provide personalized guidance oncourse selection, degree progress, transfer course evaluations, andacademic goal-setting.
  • Cultivate trusting relationships and foster a strong sense ofcampus belonging by utilizing active listening, empathy, andsupportive inquiry across both in-person and virtual studentinteractions.
  • Monitor student progress in order to proactively and, whennecessary, intrusively intervene, advocate, and recommend resourcesand solutions to a variety of academic situations.
  • Communicate applicable academic policies. Guide studentsthrough policy petitions when appropriate.
  • In collaboration with faculty, stay up to date on curriculumfor assigned programs.
  • In coordination with the Office of Admissions, completeunofficial transfer pre-evaluations for potential applicants,informing about requirements, prior transfer work that meetscriteria, and estimate the amount of credits remaining to completea requested degree program at UMN Crookston.
  • Provide input to the academic advising team on the development,evaluation, and continuous improvement of advising systems andprocesses.
Tutoring Services Coordinator (45%)
  • Coordinate the daily operations of Academic Subject Tutoring,ensuring efficient scheduling, communication, and servicedelivery.
  • Maintain and update professional development and trainingmodules for peer tutors, covering pedagogy, academic support bestpractices, equity/inclusion, feedback strategies, content-specifictutoring, and use of learning technologies.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource to peer tutors; mediateperformance or student-related challenges; promote a collaborativeand growth-oriented culture among staff.
  • Observe tutoring sessions (in person and/or online), providefeedback to tutors, and facilitate reflective practices andimprovement plans.
  • Work closely with the Director of the Student Success Center toensure alignment of tutor training and supervision practices withdepartmental goals and institutional policies and with bestpractices and standards, such as CRLA Certification.
  • Contribute to the development of the tutoring services budgetand oversee responsible resource allocation in collaboration withthe Director of Student Success.
  • Collaborate with faculty, departments, and other campuspartners to align tutoring with academic needs.
Leadership (10%)
  • Contribute toward Student Success Center program developmentand evaluation metrics.
  • Actively contribute to a positive, collaborative, andstudent-focused SSC office culture, assisting with the overall workof the team as needed.
  • Create and utilize a network of relationships with faculty,student affairs educators, and other campus staff to collaborate ona connected system of referrals for robust academic support.
  • Promote Student Success Center initiatives through outreach,presentations, and campus communications.
  • Represent the office on committees, task forces, specialprojects, and other working groups, as designated by the Directorof Student Success.
  • Leverage existing technology to foster better outreach tostudents to promote student success.
  • Remain current and involved with comprehensive andfunction-specific professional associations and emerging trends inthe field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree plus at least four years of relevant experience;or a Master’s degree plus at least two years of relevantexperience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs,counseling or a closely related field.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in higher education,student affairs, academic advising, academic support, or a relatedfield.
  • Prior experience coordinating or managing a tutoring orsupplemental instruction program.
  • Experience with CRLA International Tutor Training ProgramCertification (ITTPC).
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $54,000 - $56,500 per year; depending oneducation/qualifications/experience
