Summary:
The admissions counselor position is responsible for recruiting and supporting new students at University of Illinois Springfield. This position represents the University at on- and off-campus events, including college fairs, school visits, daily campus visits, and large admissions programs. Counselors serve as key points of contact for school counselors, students, and families, providing guidance throughout the college search, admission, and enrollment process. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, families, faculty, staff, and advisors. Responsibilities include delivering presentations to groups of varying sizes, conducting one-on-one meetings, and assisting with inquiries to ensure a positive experience for prospective students. This role plays a central part in shaping the first impressions of University of Illinois Springfield while supporting its enrollment goals through strategic outreach and personalized student support.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Outreach: 1. Attend school visits, college fairs, conferences, open houses, and other specialty events presenting to attendees. 2. Craft and execute targeted outreach plans in line with the enrollment strategy.3. Conduct webinars to increase knowledge of UIS as needed.4. Provide presentations to prospective students and families and provide tours as needed for prospective students and families.
  • Recruitment: 1. Identifies, recruits and enrolls prospective undergraduate and graduate students within an assigned territory. 2. Develops and maintains relationships with prospective students and their support systems from the inquiry stage throughout the admissions funnel utilizing various communication tactics and platforms, including phone calls, video conferencing, and written correspondence. 3. Craft and execute targeted recruitment plans in line with the enrollment strategy.
  • Application Review: Read and evaluate admissions applications, using a holistic view of each applicant to make decisions that align with our campus's enrollment targets.
  • Partnership Outreach - Develops and maintains relationships with high school counselors, community college advisors, and college career counselors, providing timely updates and support for them and their students.
  • Other: 1. Assist with admissions operational functions. 2. Engage in developing and executing communication campaigns, search committees, and various on-campus initiatives. 3. Actively participate and contribute to relevant professional organizations.4. Join various admissions-related projects and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree
2. Valid driver’s license
3. Ability to present to both large and small groups
4. Ability to work independently and cooperatively with external and internal partners
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills
6. Excellent organizational and time management skills
7.Proficiency in general office software, such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, etc
8. Ability to travel overnight and work a flexible schedule including some early mornings, late evenings, and weekends when required.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience presenting to audiences
2. Experience with Technolutions Slate CRM
3. Bilingual Spanish/English.
