Job summary

Huntsville Hospital is seeking a clinician to provide clinical assessments for patients of all ages to determine the need for inpatient psychiatric care and to offer alternatives when admission isn’t required. The role acts as a liaison between patients and the on-call psychiatrist and other staff, ensuring clear communication and timely referrals.

Accurate documentation using appropriate psychiatric terminology is essential.

Qualifications

• BSN or MSN in Psychology, Social Work, or Community Health, and/or two years of work experience in a psychiatric related setting.
• Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse graduate from Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama licensure.
• Prior inpatient hospital experience preferred and/or two years of work experience in a psychiatric related setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical assessments on patients of all ages to determine need for inpatient psychiatric care.
• Offer alternatives and appropriate referrals for patients not requiring inpatient admission.
• Liaise between the patient and the on-call psychiatrist or other personnel as appropriate.
• Maintain clear documentation and complete the admission process when necessary.
• Document using appropriate psychiatric terminology.

Job description

To provide clinical assessments on potential patients of all ages and to provide accurate assessment data to the provider to determine if inpatient psychiatric care is needed. To provide alternatives and appropriate referrals for patients who are not in need of psychiatric inpatient admission. Functions as a liaison between the patient and the on-call psychiatrist or other personnel as appropriate. Keeps clear and accurate documentation and completes the admission process when necessary. Possesses a strong knowledge and ability to document using appropriate psychiatric terminology.

Qualifications

Education

BSN or MSN level degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Community Health, and/or two years of work experience in a psychiatric related setting.

Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse graduate from Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama licensure.

Experience

Prior inpatient hospital experience preferred and/or two years of work experience in a psychiatric related setting.
