Job summary

Vernon Health and Living in Wabash, IN, seeks an experienced Administrator/Executive Director to lead day-to-day operations across pediatric and adult residents in a skilled nursing community. You will oversee clinical, financial, regulatory, and human resources functions, build a strong, interdisciplinary team, and drive census growth while ensuring residents receive exceptional care daily.

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license in the state of practice.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a licensed Administrator or Executive Director in skilled nursing/long-term care.
  • Strong working knowledge of CMS regulations, state survey processes, and long-term care operations.
  • Proven track record of financial management, census development, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and retain a high-performing interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems and operational reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all day-to-day operations of the skilled nursing community servicing pediatric and adult residents across all departments and shifts.
  • Build, develop, and retain a high-performing interdisciplinary leadership team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, compassion, teamwork, and resident-centered care.
  • Conduct regular department head meetings, leadership rounds, and staff visibility on all shifts.
  • Ensure all departments operate in alignment with the community's mission, values, and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, state health department regulations, and all applicable laws.
  • Lead survey preparation and manage the facility's response to annual state inspections and deficiencies.
  • Oversee clinical quality metrics including falls, pressure injuries, hospitalizations, and infection rates.
  • Support and partner with the Director of Nursing on clinical operations and staffing.
  • Ensure the QAPI program is active, data-driven, and producing measurable improvement.
  • Manage the community's operating budget, census development, and financial performance.
  • Monitor daily census by payer mix and partner with Marketing & Admissions to drive occupancy.
  • Review and manage labor costs, overtime, agency utilization, and departmental expenses.
  • Ensure accurate Medicare, Medicaid, and private pay billing in partnership with the Business Office.
  • Report financial performance to ownership and regional leadership on a regular basis.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and retention of all team members.
  • Address team member relations issues promptly and in compliance with employment law.
  • Champion team member recognition, engagement, and a positive workplace culture.
  • Ensure OSHA compliance and HR policies.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for residents, families, and team members.
  • Respond to and resolve resident and family concerns and grievances promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure resident rights are protected and upheld throughout the community.
  • Participate in care conferences and maintain visibility and relationships with residents and families.

What You'll Do
Operations & Leadership

Requirements
