San Diego Community College District’s College Police Department seeks an Administrative Technician – Police Records to support confidential records, processing reports, and clerical operations behind the scenes.
Under supervision, you will coordinate daily records, train staff, ensure compliance with laws, and provide front-line service to students, employees, and outside agencies. This role offers a lead position in records workflows and benefits with flexible schedules.

Under the direction of the Police Records Supervisor, the Administrative Technician – Police Records performs advanced and complex clerical, administrative, and law enforcement duties in support of the College Police Department. The position serves as senior-level resource for Police Records and other assigned clerical staff.
The Administrative Technician position assists with coordinating daily record operations and workflow, prioritizing assignments, maintaining consistency in records and administrative processes, providing guidance and training, reviewing work for completeness and accuracy; and promoting consistent application of departmental procedures, District policies, and applicable legal requirements.
The position regularly handles confidential and sensitive law enforcement information and exercises a high degree of independent judgement within established policies and procedures. The incumbent is expected to recognize matters requiring supervisory, command, or legal review and appropriately elevate those matters to the Police Records Supervisor. The incumbent is expected to provide professional service to employees, students, members of the public, law enforcement agencies, and other District departments.
Confidentiality and security requirements applicable to law enforcement and criminal justice information.
Records retention, archiving, disclosure, and destruction requirements.
California Public Records Act requirements as applicable to law enforcement records.
Principles and practices of records review, redaction, and authorized release of information.
Modern office procedures, administrative practices, recordkeeping, and document management.
Records management systems, databases, spreadsheets, and standard office software.
Principles of effective customer service and professional communication.
Basic principles of lead work, employee training, workflow coordination, and quality control.
The Administrative Technician – Police Records is a senior level clerical and administrative classification distinguished from an Administrative Assistant III by the responsibility for providing lead direction, coordinating workflow, assisting with training and quality control, handling more complex records and administrative assignments, and serving as a primary resource to clerical staff.
The position may coordinate work, establish daily priorities, provide training and guidance, review completed work, identify deficiencies, and recommend operational or procedural improvements. The position does not exercise formal supervisory authority.
The Police Records Supervisor retains responsibility for formal supervision, employee evaluations, performance management, discipline, grievance matters, staffing decisions, policy determinations, legal interpretations, and overall management of Police Records operations.
Applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, INC (ACEI). A copy of the evaluation must be submitted with your online application.
