Job description

Job Title: Child and Youth Program Assistant

This position is located at Fort Gregg-Adams, VA. This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies throughout the program. Management has the right to assign staff to locations as mission requires.

This position is eligible for the NAF benefits package and leave accrual.

Duties
  • Receive children, youth, parents, and visitors courteously and professionally. Answer calls, determine their purpose, and direct them appropriately.
  • Ensure proper sign-in of parents, children, youth, and visitors before they enter the program area. Monitor children’s departure to ensure only authorized individuals remove them.
  • Register and terminate children/youth in the Child and Youth Management System (CYMS). Record transactions and data for reports and tracking.
  • Provide administrative support such as mail handling, copying, correspondence, reports, and day-to-day operational tasks.
  • Explain policies related to fees, waiting lists, enrollments, and program events. Manage reservations for hourly care as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be 18 years or older at the time of appointment.
  • Must have Direct Deposit and a Social Security Card.
  • Complete pre-employment background checks as per AR 215-3, 2-15.m., and Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Have a current health assessment documenting good mental and physical health, immunizations, and freedom from communicable diseases, including annual influenza vaccination.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Complete annual training requirements and demonstrate on-the-job competence.
  • May require irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Complete employment verification (E-Verify).
  • Travel to on and off-post locations may be required.
Qualifications

NF-02 Qualifications:

  • Experience in an office setting demonstrating administrative, clerical, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Experience with office automation tools for document preparation, file management, and record keeping.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

NF-03 Qualifications:

  • Experience managing filing systems, maintaining documents like attendance and correspondence in a professional office setting.
  • Customer service and business communication skills.
  • Knowledge of correct grammar and composition for preparing written materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and automated databases.
  • At least 1 year of experience at the NF-02 level or equivalent.

Highly qualified candidates will have experience with automated systems for childcare operations. Applicants meeting these criteria may be prioritized for consideration. Additional certifications may be requested by management.

Referrals and selections can be made at either grade.
