SALARY: The salary range for this position is $79,837.78 to $124,866.36 for Schedule A, and $79,837.78 to $118,623.04 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.Judiciary employees hired prior to August 29, 2015, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after August 29, 2015, are considered Schedule B.

The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking an administrative supervisor to work with the Chief of the Court and Judicial Security Unit, who is responsible for the daily operations and strategic planning of court security in all courts throughout the state. This unit is directly involved in emergency planning, including coordination with facilities regarding physical security. The selected candidate will be expected to supervise four unit members and 3 contractors. The selected candidate will disseminate administrative tasks to unit members and track deadlines, develop and maintain a working relationship with the Judiciary's security partners including County Administration and Sheriffs, State Police, other Local Law Enforcement and State agencies and the United States Marshals Service. In addition, this individual will assist the Unit Chief as needed.

REMOTE WORK : The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Example of Duties

  • Mentor, coach, and counsel staff.
  • Set expectations and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Undertake progressive discipline, as needed.
  • Oversee development of curriculum for users of the Judiciary Incident Reporting System and conduct training for users of the system.
  • Schedule, manage, and coordinate the training and coordination of the pre-approved Judiciary situational safety and general security classes both in the Central Office and vicinages.
  • Prioritize and assign work to staff.
  • Reconcile Judiciary Incident Reporting System incidents in the database for completeness and direct follow up with vicinage operations when required. Support Operations Managers in the acquisition and submission of supplemental materials regarding Judiciary Incident Reporting System.
  • Oversee scheduling of duress alarm testing for Judiciary, OAE, Probation, Records and off-site judges' chambers.
  • Research, compile and prepare statistical reports for court management, analyze data and make recommendations to management.
  • Support Workplace Violence Liaisons/Operations Managers regarding JIRS (generally) and document input.
  • Receive and triage calls and correspondence received regarding threats, and other security related issues and projects and respond appropriately.
  • With the assistance of members of Court & Judicial Security Unit, draft, review, revise and update training manuals, recruitment materials, and other document content.
  • Maintain record of employees that have completed RJH various trainings.
  • Receive and triage calls and correspondence received regarding threats, and other security related issues and projects and respond appropriately.
  • Set goals and provide direction as the liaison to the Sheriff's Association of New Jersey, New Jersey State Police, U.S. Marshals Service, and to other law enforcement agencies involved in court security and the JSMART program.
  • Coordinate with Judiciary senior management, the New Jersey State Police, and vicinage Sheriff's Office as necessary.
  • Set local procedures in line with statewide requirements
  • Perform additional duties as required


Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and five years of professional experience, two years of which shall have included experience in development, coordination, analysis, implementation, administration or research.

Substitution: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional paraprofessional and/or professional experience on a year-for-year basis with one year of such experience being equal to 30 semester hour credits. An associate's degree and two years of additional paraprofessional and/or professional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree. A master's degree may be substituted for one year of general experience as indicated above –OR– a law degree may be substituted for two years of general experience as indicated above.

Supplemental Information

Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.

Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
