Under general direction of the Associate Chief of Patient Flow, in collaboration with the ACN (Associate Chief Nurse) of Critical Care, Perioperative Services, Medical/Surgical and Nurse Managers and within the Lahey Clinic Professional Practice Model, MA Nurse Practice Act and ANA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, supervises and expedites patient flow throughout the Lahey continuum.

Oversees and coordinates Hospital/Clinic activities during off-shift hours. Identifies operational problems and initiates corrective action.

In Collaboration With The ACN Of The Specific Clinical Area And Nurse Manager, The Administrative Supervisor Supervises All Nursing Staff In Clinical Patient Care Areas To Ensure Quality Patient Care. Areas Of Responsibility Include

The Administrative Supervisor maintains a current level of knowledge with management leadership skills as defined by nursing specialty organizations, complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies, and is currently licensed in the state of Massachusetts as a registered nurse.

Job Description
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
Clinical Practice
  • Assures compliance with Nursing Practice Guidelines.
  • Maintains and displays knowledge of current professional/clinical issues and uses evidence based resources to implement necessary changes in the delivery of nursing care.
  • Conducts regular rounds in order to monitor hospital activities and to ensure activities are carried out in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
  • Investigates patient and visitor complaints, gathering information from all persons involved, contacts department managers, as appropriate, and prepares summary reports.
  • Serves as a clinical and administrative resource for staff in relation to Lahey Clinic policy and procedures.
  • Fosters a systematic awareness of the diversity that exists within the organization, including culture, ethnicity, gender and age and promotes an environment that is sensitive to the needs of diverse populations.
System Coordination
  • Links departmental goals to organizations mission and goals.
  • Works collaboratively to solve problems, improve processes and integrate services within Nursing and other departments.
  • Supports new ideas and changes within the department by actively participating and contributing.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting demands of the department.
  • Develops effective communication methods to keep staff and others informed about activities of the organization and department.
  • Coordinates and directs activities during Clinic emergencies and/or disaster drill, using established disaster plans.
Quality Improvement
  • Reviews outcome measures and works collaboratively with leadership team to improve patient outcomes. Ie: National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and Core Measures
  • Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to:
  • Comply with regulatory standards
  • Improve patient satisfaction
  • Identify, assess, measure and systematically improve important processes and activities.
Human Resource Management
  • Encourages creativity and celebrates staff accomplishments.
  • Communicates staffing concerns to Nurse Managers and Associate Chiefs.
  • Encourages staff participation on Shared Governance Councils, nursing committees, and organization committees.
  • Provides a safe environment for discussion of issues.
  • Coaches and supports staff by removing barriers and addressing issues.
  • Develops effective communication methods to keep staff and others informed about the activities of the organization and department.
Budgetary Responsibilities
  • Allocates resources effectively to provide high-quality, cost-effective services.
Professional Growth/Self Improvement
  • Pursues self-awareness, actively seeks feedback, accepts constructive criticism, and modifies behavior accordingly.
  • Engages in professional development activities such as education, participating in professional associations, or other appropriate activities.
  • Maintains necessary continuing education requirements for license, certifications and enhancements.
  • Maintains own educational record.
  • Supports Lahey Clinics commitment to community-based activities both within the Lahey community and beyond.
  • Maintains and displays knowledge of current professional issues through participation in a professional organization and certification in field of nursing.
  • Participates in nursing research activities.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of Approved/accredited School of nursing.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Requires current license to practice professional nursing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Demonstrates the necessary clinical competence in area of nursing practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills.

Experience: Five years of tertiary nursing experience.

Pay Range

$125,985.60 USD - $187,200.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
