Job Description

This Medical Assistant will be more of an administrative Medical Assistant role. This position will provide support to providers that work in skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes.

This is a "behind the scenes” Medical Assistant position that doesn't require face to face contact with patients, instead you will be communicating with patients, families, pharmacies and providers via phone, text and e-mail.

This position will be considered hybrid with a mix of at home and in office work. The work schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Responsibilities

  • Handling prescriptions refills with patients and pharmacies
  • Calling insurance/verifying all medical benefits
  • Processing home health orders
  • Communicating with physicians and APP's to discuss patient concerns requiring thorough knowledge of processes and issues
  • Working with patients-scheduling appointments/medical procedures, processing insurance forms/FMLA forms, updating patient charts/records.
  • Identifying and resolving problems with insurance pre-certifications and pre-authorizations.
  • Maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor when answering phones, corresponding with patients, co-workers and physicians.
  • Creating, maintaining and updating patient medical records in the system while maintaining patient medical records confidentiality.
  • Performing administrative responsibilities to support the business.
  • Looking for opportunities to streamline processes or improve quality or efficiency.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

  • Thorough understanding of a medical facility's processes and practices
  • Flexible and able to multitask with a sense of urgency
  • Professional and courteous communication

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1+ years of Medical Assistant experience required
  • Medical Assistant Certification/License is a plus
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology required, ICD and CPT coding a plus

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong skills with electronic health records and practice management systems required.
