Job summary

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking an Assistant Business Manager for the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility. The role oversees receiving and distribution operations and supervises accounting and mail room staff, with responsibilities across multiple cost centers and committees.

The position chairs the Prisoner Store Committee and may assume Business Manager duties in their absence, while handling special projects and ensuring compliance with policy and ethics standards.

Qualifications

  • Three years of professional experience involving the application of the principles of finance or in two or more areas of administrative management: human resources, information technology, purchasing, organizational analysis, or property management, including one year equivalent to the experienced (P11) level.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the facility's receiving and distribution operations (Warehouse, Quartermaster, Laundry, Central Caustics, and Prisoner Store) and indirect supervision of Business Office accounting staff and mail room staff.
  • Chair the Prisoner Store Committee and, in the absence of the Business Manager, chair the PBF Committee; assume duties of the Business Manager when needed.
  • Oversee special projects as assigned by the facility leadership.

This position serves as the Assistant Business Manager for the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility, a multilevel facility that houses over 2,300 inmates. The position is responsible for management of the facility's receiving and distribution operations (Warehouse, Quartermaster, Laundry, Central Caustics, and Prisoner Store), and indirect supervision of Business Office accounting staff and mail room staff; as well as managing special projects. The position chairs the Prisoner Store Committee and, in the absence of the Business Manager, chairs the PBF Committee. The incumbent of this position assumes all duties of the Business Manager in her/his absence.

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field.

Experience

Three years of professional experience involving the application of the principles of finance or in two or more of the following areas of administrative management: human resources, information technology, purchasing, organizational analysis, or property management, including one year equivalent to the experienced (P11) level.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
